The Ambition Programme marked an incredible beginning on Monday, 7th July, with its inaugural Launch Event hosted at Sevenoaks School. Fifteen bright and ambitious students, representing the five participating Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) schools, were officially welcomed to the programme. The palpable energy and enthusiasm of the cohort set a positive tone for the exciting four-year journey ahead.
The day commenced with the introduction of the dedicated university student mentors. These inspiring individuals will form a vital part of the students’ support network throughout the programme. A “Who Am I?” workshop allowed mentors and students to share insights about themselves, immediately fostering a strong sense of community.
Each of the five Ambition Schools delivered an engaging two-minute presentation, sharing what makes their academy special and unique. This was followed by a comprehensive campus tour, giving the cohort a chance to explore the world-class facilities and grounds of Sevenoaks School.
After lunch in the dining hall, the students participated in an engaging afternoon session with the acclaimed Noisy Classroom. This interactive experience was designed to boost confidence, develop advanced communication skills, and encourage critical thinking—all essential skills for future university applications and careers. The energy in the room was high as students engaged in dynamic discussions and activities.
Staff from each LAT academy and Sevenoaks School met as the Ambition team to strategise and plan for the coming academic year. Discussions included the schedule of events, specific areas of focus for knowledge and skill development, the introduction of the Brightside mentoring platform, and defining the metrics for measuring the programme’s long-term impact.
The day concluded with positive feedback and goodbyes, leaving both students and staff excited for the next Meet Up Day in November and the academic year ahead. The Launch Event successfully established the foundation for a powerful and enduring partnership dedicated to student success.
